National Minimum Wage 2016 - 2017

The National Minimum Wage is a minimum amount per hour that most workers in the UK are entitled to be paid.

The following rates came into effect on 1 October 2016:

  • the adult rate increased to £7.20 an hour
  • the rate for 21-24 year olds increased to £6.95 an hour
  • the rate for 18-20 year olds increased to £5.55 an hour
  • the rate for 16-17 year olds increased to £4.00 an hour
  • the apprentice rate increased to £3.40 an hour
